Ana’s sponsor changed her life

Ana was abandoned to a Children’s Home in Moldova because of her parents’ poverty.   They could not even feed her.

In the summer of 2003  a couple in England decided sponsor her.   Or to be more accurate, they decided to pay for their own daughter, Anna, to sponsor her.   English Anna, although only four when the relationship began, has always been a caring child and became very involved in the sponsorship.   She made cards and bought presents for her friend Ana in Moldova.   Ana in Moldova along with the other children in the Home benefitted from better conditions because of the sponsorship.   But over and above this Ana knew that someone cared for her.

Last year English Anna’s father decided to join our sponsor tour to Moldova and met Ana for himself.   She was a very shy girl.   Not at all greedy.   When asked what she wanted she was finally persuaded that there must be something.   The only thing she wanted was for her nose to be better.   Ana had polyps in her nose which prevented her from being able to talk properly.   She suffered the ridicule of the other children in the Home.  As English Anna’s father left the Children’s Home, she said that she would pray for “Little Anna in England”

Back in England, Anna and her family decided they would pay for an operation.   Ana’s life is now changed.   She is speaking clearly and is back home with her mother.  At long last Ana is facing the world with confidence thanks to her sponsor.

And what did 8 year old English Anna get out of it?  Well, in her own words she said,
“I really enjoyed sponsoring Ana.   It gave me someone to remember, love and care for.   It was also tons of fun and nice to know that you could be improving someone’s future and help them look after themselves.”

And English Anna’s father said about Ana, “She wrote to us at Christmas, thanking us for the presents that had included a small teddy bear – the teddy was next to her every night reminding her that she was loved and cared for by the people in England.

“My children were fascinated by the stories of my visit and renewed their efforts to tell their friends of MWB’s work.  It left me wondering about my priorities and God’s priorities: a very small financial commitment had made a huge difference to Ana’s life; knowing that someone cared mattered so very much to her.”
