The Grgics from Bosnia

Ivo and Zorka outside their refugee barrack homeZorka and Ivo Grgic are hoping for a better future.

They’ve lived in the Tasovcici Refugee Camp for over fifteen years waiting for housing to be made available. So for the time it takes for a child to grow into a teenager, Zorka and Ivo have lived with their two children in a refugee’s temporary ‘barrack’.

Before coming to Tasovcici, the Grgic family lived in the south of Bosnia-Herzegovina. They lost their home during the war. Since then, the whole family has suffered ill-health: Ivo is a civilian war invalid, Zorca suffers from depression, and their son is addicted to drugs.

In spite of their poor health and low income, Zorka and Ivo are looking forward to, and believe in, a better future. Their faith is what keeps them going: ‘Faith in God is everything to us.’

When a volunteer from MWB offered them a Bible, they confirmed how much it would mean to them: ‘We enjoy reading and the Bible is the most important book. We pray every day for our health and for our children. We believe that God is with us and we know that we have everything we need. We are thankful for food and for life. Even though our health is poor, some of us can work and earn money to provide for our needs.’

Tasovcici Refugee CampMWB Bosnia-Herzegovina has supported many of the 150 people living in the Tasovcici Refugee Camp for several years. Most of them are single or elderly. Their background is Roman Catholic and for most of them, faith is an important factor in their lives.
