Tsvetomira’s story
Tsvetomira dreamt of attending Bulgaria’s National School for Music and Performing Arts. At school, Tsvetomira learnt to play the cello – so well that everyone said she really should study it further. But that was impossible.
When very small, Tsvetomira was abandoned by her teenage mother. So her grandmother adopted her, bringing Tsvetomira up as her own daughter. But life was tough – they faced difficulties financially, and Tsvetomira’s grandmother had to make many sacrifices.
A special project
It was during one of the toughest times, when Tsvetomira was 18 years old, that she suddenly received a scholarship from Mission Without Borders. This paid for all of her college expenses! It came about through a MWB Special Projects programme, which covered the monthly fees for Tsvetomira to attend the National School for Music during 2008–09.
‘Life has always been tough for my grandmother and me. We were hardly able to make ends meet and were always in debt, even for food. This scholarship helped us so much and that meant we could cope during this difficult time.’
From cello-playing to bible-reading
Last year, Tsvetomira decided to be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ. She wanted to make a public commitment to God, because, she says, ‘I know God loves me and wants to draw me closer to Himself.’ Yet there was one thing that Tsvetomira still desperately wanted – and that was a Bible of her own. Wonderfully, as part of our Jubilee celebrations, in February of this year, Tsvetomira received one.
‘In addition to all the blessings from the Lord I have received through Mission Without Borders and the ministers at my church, I was offered a most precious gift – a Bible. I used to ask my grandmother to lend me her Bible to read. Now I have my own, new Bible and I am really, really happy. I will read it every day and I will keep it safe. It is not just any book, but the Word of God. It has a beautiful cover, with golden letters and cross references inside. I had dreamt of having a Bible like this for a long time – but this is beyond my expectations. What’s most important to me is the work of the Holy Spirit in my heart, so that I may be changed and grow in God’s wisdom and having a Christ-like character. I know this will take perseverance in prayer and the study of God’s Word.’
