This Spring you can sow Seeds of Hope that will transform the lives of families like Asja's.
Families in Eastern Europe are facing desperate unemployment and poverty because of the impact of the War in Ukraine and COVID-19 pandemic on their livelihoods. This Spring, more than ever before, growing crops will ensure children and families can eat, fortifying their health and giving them new hope and security for the future.
Asja, five, and her sister Ajlin, three, live with their parents, Sedina and Djemal Zahirovic, both 24, in Bugojno in the mountains of Bosnia-Herzegovina, one of the poorest countries in Europe. The family live in a one-room apartment in poor condition. There is no water in the kitchen and furniture is sparse. Last year, during the lockdown, Sedina and Djemal had no hope for employment and no source of income.
We've been helping the Zahirovic family with regular food parcels, clothes, shoes, and medicines. And thanks to an elderly neighbour who kindly offered the family the use of a small piece of land, as well as help from the Mission, they were able to introduce livestock such as chickens and grow vegetables from seeds and not go hungry. Asja was so full of joy helping her mother and father, "The seeds were tiny to start, you could barely see the leaves... now look at what we have grown!" she said, holding up a bundle of onions.
Mission Without Borders wants to help 300 families like the Zahirovics in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Moldova with home grown vegetables, packing and distributing 400 boxes of seeds for crops such as tomatoes, carrots, beans, potatoes, onions, peppers and peas. We can only do this with your help.
Your gift of £27 will provide 3 boxes of seedlings this Spring for a family like Asja's living in desperate poverty, providing them with essential food to survive now and the opportunity to become more self-sufficient and flourish in the coming years.
If you were able to make a special gift of £53 this will cover the costs of tools such as hoes and rakes, boxes of seedlings, an irrigation system, maintenance of our Greenhouse in Victoria, Romania as well as the support and training of 50 people in practical agricultural skills for one week.
Words from the families and Christian brothers and sisters we work with say more than anything about the difference we are able to make. Simply click below to find out more.
Any funds raised over and above our target will be used where most urgently needed to benefit children and families in Eastern Europe supported by MWB.
