"Help is urgently needed..."

- Oleg Serbo, MWB co-coordinator, Donbas region, Eastern Ukraine

... We have been hugely affected by the war. Many suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.

One of our team, Pastor Oleg Serbo, has lived in the Donbas region for many years, and words from Isaiah 41:2 are often on his heart:

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.

For Oleg, these words have strengthened him during the darkest days of the conflict. Mission Without Borders is working on this frontline and have plans to work with more families in 2022. We are determined to do all we can for children and families who have lost loved ones and arefacing terrible levels of poverty and inadequate housing. Some have no access to water or a toilet inside or outside the house and are unable to wash for days.

One family Pastor Oleg and the Mission are working with are the Malkova’s. Sadly, the father is an alcoholic and abusive. Sometimes he takes the help the family has received and disappears for days. The family now face a further tragedy as their mother, Alyona, is dying of a rare illness, which has left her partly paralysed, confined to bed and unable to speak.

Life in the Donbas

Ukraine residentAmazingly, her eldest daughter, Karina, can understand the sounds her mother makes and translates them into words. Karina stays by her mother’s side through the long nights when she screams with pain and cannot sleep. When the pain subsides, usually around 3:00 AM, Karina’s younger sisters come into the room to be closer to their mother.

Not surprisingly, Karina is angry and bitter against her father. Her favourite hobby is attending a boxing club, and it’s hard not to feel this is to equip her to protectherself and her siblings from their abusive father. Her youth is being stolen from her.

Along with much-needed food parcels and material support, the Mission team has tried to bring spiritual hope to the family. Alyona asks Pastor Oleg to pray for her healing. This beautiful young mother so wants to walk again and hold her baby.

It’s wonderful to share the love of Christ and what we have at Christmas!”

Care packages for Eastern UkraineMWB and the local church will continue to support the Malkova family – please join us in praying for them, and others like them facing such darkness and despair. As the war rages, we want to reach out to help more children and families than ever before and distribute boxes of food and hygiene items to as many as we can. A gift of £15 will cover the distribution and contents of one box to a child or family in great need.

Please do respond today.
